La Palma Astro photography Workshop May 14th to 21st 2026

£2,500.00

La Palma is a paradise for astrophotography thanks to its dark, light-pollution-free skies and designation as a Starlight Reserve. High-altitude spots like Roque de los Muchachos rise above the clouds, offering clear views of the stars and stunning cloud inversions—where a sea of clouds forms below you, creating surreal, dreamlike scenes. Its reliable climate, dramatic volcanic landscapes, and world-class observatories make it one of the best destinations on Earth for capturing the night sky.

Nights will be spent atop the volcanic crater rim within Europe’s most renowned dark sky reserve, Caldera de Taburiente National Park, where you’ll immerse yourself in photographing the Milky Way, planets, telescopes, and constellations under some of the clearest, darkest skies in the world. You’ll have hands-on guidance as we create star trails and timelapses, capturing the movement of the stars across the sky in beautifully layered exposures. The emphasis will be on refining techniques to create stunning, high-quality night images, whether it’s perfecting focus, optimizing long exposures, or learning the art of stacking for noise reduction.

During the day, we’ll focus on editing your images, where you’ll learn how to bring out the full potential of your night shots using professional editing software. We’ll also spend time discussing how to plan your shots for the upcoming night sessions, understanding factors like moon phases, weather, and the best locations to shoot for the most impactful compositions. This will include tips on how to plan for star trails, timelapses, and Milky Way shots, ensuring you’re prepared for the night ahead.

You’ll also have the opportunity to photograph La Palma’s awe-inspiring mountain landscapes during the golden hour and blue hour, with dramatic lighting that adds a sense of magic to the rugged terrain. The cloud inversion at sunset offers an incredible opportunity to capture ethereal scenes of the clouds rolling below you, while the west coast provides some of the darkest skies for nightscape photography, allowing you to shoot the stars in their most vibrant form.

Our accommodation is located on the serene west coast, far from the hustle and bustle of the capital. From the villa’s grounds, you'll have the perfect vantage point to shoot the Milky Way, with a clear view of the stars more vibrant and detailed on your camera than almost anywhere else in Europe. This workshop is designed for photographers looking to elevate their astrophotography, whether you’re capturing the stars or learning how to plan, shoot, and edit nightscapes like a pro. You’ll walk away with not only a deeper understanding of astrophotography but also stunning images of the night sky, landscapes, and everything in between.
