This workshop is designed for photographers eager to explore various styles of night astrophotography, with a special focus on shooting atop the Caldera de Taburiente National Park.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Caldera de Taburiente National Park: Experience the unique opportunity to photograph from the rim of a volcanic crater within Europe's most renowned dark sky reserve. The park's elevation and clear skies provide an exceptional backdrop for astrophotography.

  • Mountain Landscapes and Sunset Photography: Capture La Palma's stunning mountain landscapes bathed in evening light, including the mesmerizing sunset views over the cloud inversion. These sessions will enhance your skills in landscape and nightscape photography.

  • West Coast Nightscapes: Explore and photograph the incredibly dark west coast of La Palma, known for its prime stargazing conditions. This location offers unique opportunities to capture the night sky in a coastal setting.

Accommodation and Travel:

  • Prime Location: Stay in accommodations situated on the west coast, away from the capital's light pollution. This location provides easy access to the workshop sites and offers opportunities to view and photograph the Milky Way directly from the premises.

  • Airport Transfers: To accommodate various flight schedules, two designated airport collection times will be arranged for participants, ensuring a smooth transfer to the accommodation.

What to Bring:

  • DSLR or mirrorless camera with manual settings

  • Wide-angle lens (f/2.8 or faster)

  • Sturdy tripod

  • Remote shutter release

  • Star tracker (optional; available for use)

  • Extra batteries and memory cards

  • Laptop with photo editing software (e.g., Lightroom, Photoshop)

  • Warm clothing for night sessions

  • Flashlight or headlamp with a red filter

  • For astrophotography on La Palma, you'll need a moderate fitness level. You'll be walking on short, uphill dirt trails and uneven, jagged paths, which can be physically demanding. While the trails are not overly long, they can be steep and challenging, requiring stamina and balance. You'll also need the endurance to spend extended periods outside, carrying gear and hiking to remote, dark sky spots. A reasonable fitness level ensures you can stay active for several hours, especially at higher altitudes where the air can be thinner, allowing you to focus on your photography without exhaustion.
